My Story

James has over nine years experience working in Specialist Practice.

He graduated from Sydney University in 2009. His first 3 years were spent in mixed practice outside Canberra where the exposure to a variety of animal species piqued his passion for surgery. In 2012 he hung up his mixed practice boots and moved back to Sydney where he started work as an Emergency and Surgery intern at a Specialist Referral and Emergency hospital. He also successfully passed his Small Animal Surgery Membership exams in the same year. He continued working in Specialist practice as a Surgery Registrar until obtaining a Surgery Residency in 2016.

In 2021 James moved down to Launceston with his family where he established a strong surgical referral caseload across the north of the state. In 2024 he passed his specialist exams and became a Fellow of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists in Small Animal Surgery becoming one of only two Specialist Surgeons in Tasmania. He has a strong interest in orthopaedics and neurosurgery and has published on vertebral malformations in French Bulldogs. His aim is to provide high quality and accessible pet care for the people of Northern Tasmania and beyond. He lives in Launceston with his wife, two young kids and a precocious Dachshund called Millie.
